Format: All Good Things Sealed Deck (Sealed)
First Edition, has it been this long since we met ye? It certainly was interesting trying to remember all those old rules and strategies. We had hoped to do the All Good Things event earlier than the Holiday Tournament, but it came down to time once again and we waited for months to open our packs and boxes. We decided it would be better and more fun to play real sealed games instead of Warp Speed, and I can't say we were wrong in changing our minds.
First, the draws: You know something's a little off at the get go when you pull four, yes FOUR, of the same foil from your Reflections packs. Benji had a fine stack of Klingon Death Yell foils, and I had my quartet of Beverly Picards. For me at least, I sure got a lot of nice rares in my packs and starter, more than I'd usually have to work with in a sealed game. My other draw surprise was that my Starter Deck II had black border premier cards, 94 alpha set, sweet!! I drew a Horga'hn in the starter, and you'd think in a sealed deck game that would have been the knife in the back of an opponent, right?
First round, both Benji and I were dropping cards fast and furious for the first 20 turns or so. We had amassed quite a team before we got ships in play to do anything. Benji had a two turn lead on me before I got a ship out. We traded blows for a while with mission attempts until I released my Horga'hn and Benji's heart sunk a little. I had the advantage for the moment and went to capitalize by attempting a game-winning mission, and then the curse of the sealed deck dilemmas took over. I don't mean just that turn, I mean the whole rest of the game.
I got stuck behind a Worshiper, having no Anthropology in my away team at the time, and got stuck so Benji could capitalize and win 100-76. In the second game it was more of a massacre than a close race. Dilemmas kept me locked down most of the time, and a pair of The Higher...The Fewer cost me precious points. I was blocked at several attempts and lost in a swift game 110-18.
It's nice to have a few 1E games now and then, keeps the wits sharp. Snaps to Benji, truly had the game going for him most of the time. He successfully defends his sealed deck title from last year, and regains both the Tournament Trophy, as well as the Can of Whoop Ass for smacking me around at every chance. 2003 season in the books, time to plot revenge for 2004!
