Format: 2nd Edition Sealed Deck (Sealed)
As I sit at the computer at 3 am trying to figure out how to describe the tournament that just occured, one phrase comes to mind: "What the bloody hell?"
This was our first time playing with Second Edition cards and rules. We basically retired the old standings and gave ourselves fresh starts. Since none of us had many cards, we decided to make this a sealed deck Holiday Tourney. Razor went for the Next Gen starter, Bockers was obviously drawn to the Klingons, and I opted for DS9. We each had 4 packs to supplement our starter. The format for the night was fairly straight forward: 3 1v1 games and then a multiplayer to finish it. In the off chance of a tie, the winner of the 1v1 game between the tied people would win. If that game was a tie, then we'd just have a rumble in an alley. The carnage began at about 8:30pm
Since Bockers was completely unfamiliar with the rules, Razor and I played first. That was... bizzare. It took some getting used to the idea that dilemmas were not meant to annihilate an entire crew, just stop them. I kind of like it! Razor just was not having a peachy time. I crushed him. Well on my way to getting my trophy back!
The second game I switched and went after the Chancellor. This was a wee bit more dicey. I did manage to get a space and planet mission done to put me ahead of his one mission. As I was checking for requirements on my last mission time ran out. We checked and the next dilemma would have stopped me anyway. So I settled for a technical.
The third game I know nothing about. Bockers won, that's about it. I was shuffling my deck and watching South Park. I'm sure Razor will have something to say about the game so I'll let him do it.
Given the way the first 3 games went, technically anyone could still win. We got off to a very quick start and everyone seemed to be playing a truck load of people right away. Razor jumped out and got a mission done within just a few turns. I kept getting jammed on a mission by having 1 Cunning to few. Stupid people. No really, stupid people didn't have the cunning. Bockers was beginning to catch up and completed a 30 point planet mission. Razor went ahead and did a space mission, he only needed one more and I didn't have a single mission yet! Somehow, and this was a small miracle, I finished the one mission. I was in second by 5 points. I started to contemplate which of the two I would want to have win to leave me in second place. I ran over and finished a planet to give me each type and Bockers completed a planet, I was still in second by 5 points. I seriously considered throwing my dilemmas to let Bockers win so I would get second in the tourney. I didn't, and Razor won the multi-player. He then congratulated me on the win. What? Oh yeah... that little deal about a tie going to who won the 1v1 game between them. I wasted him! I won!! How in the...?
It was a bizzare time. Cool new cards. My luck with the sealed deck rares seems to come and go. Out of 7 rares I got 1 dilemma, 2 klingon things, and 4 Romulan. Argh. But it was good in the end and we made some trades and all were happy. We finished at 2am. Pain...suffering! It was a good time. Now we have a few months to get new cards, decide new strategies, and prepare for blood. I doubt very much we will be able to have a game at all between now and July. But then we'll all be in the area and can destroy the galaxy more often. Until then!

I really had a lot of fun with this tournament. Typically holiday tournaments of the past have been constructed affairs, so doing another sealed tournament was a nice change. Since we all wanted to try Second Edition, and nobody really had any cards to play with, it was the best option we had.
My draws didn't go a lot better than Benji's did. I did end up with a Bashir, but playing Next Gen didn't allow me to use him, so that was a bit unfortunate. I got a dilemma or two, and Escape which came in handy in the multiplayer game.
To cover the game that Benji missed out on, Bockers and I had an interesting go of things. As with Benji's game, I got a few attack cards out early and ended up the only one attacking anyone in both of my 1v1 games. Didn't do me any good, but it was something I could do to try and slow them down. I didn't get going fast enough in either preliminary match, though when I got to the multiplayer game I got things together at last. I was hoping my dilemmas could shut Benji down so I could win the tournament, but he stayed a step ahead of Bockers and took the victory in the end.
Funny though, I lose two games, and tie with Benji overall who won both his 1v1 games. I love multiplayer already! Looking forward to our next tournament and hopefully a chance to really shine again.
