Star Trek Regional Event Report 2000

Final Standings

While I was disappointed that I would not be able to use any Tribble cards this time around, at least I wasn't scrambling at the last second to build a deck with new cards, as was the case two years ago with DS9. Having taken a year off from the regional scene, I was looking forward to testing my mettle against the best around. I designed a good deck, in my opinion, based on utilizing both Romulan HQs. Since it had done well against Razor in the trials, I figured it should survive the day.

I finished up in 8th place, not bad for starting the day with an aced loss and a bye. It was an enlightening experience to be sure, I'm looking forward to a few more. Now, I'm only 11 points away from my next promotion. I'll be a Q!

-Preceeding Summary by Fleet Admiral Benji

Well, Benji really covered most of it, but I wanted to add a few high and lowlights of my own. My deck strategy was based around a Quark's Bar/Credit Exchange/Dabo point machine while I could build up forces for missions to end the games. The best part of all...the deck is designed so that it is virtually impossible to score a perfect victory, since it's possible to get 2 points the first turn if necessary (DL Morn to Cargo Bay, walk to Quark's, DL Latinum from Morn, Credit Exchange for 2...he shoots, he scores!). It didn't work tremendously well, but I have to say that the technical win over Benji was certainly a morale booster, since we knew each other's decks inside-out. I didn't get a full win all day, though I was closest in round 2 where I was timed out before I could finish a game winning mission. Better luck next time I guess, and time to start planning and plotting for next year. :) Good luck to Kris Sostenby, headed for Worlds, and to defending World Champ Mike Harrington. Can't wait to hear how this year turns out.
